Kwara Police Launch Strict Statewide Traffic Law Enforcement Drive

ILORIN, Kwara State — In a decisive move aimed at restoring order on the roads, the Kwara State Police Command has announced the immediate and strict enforcement of all existing traffic laws and regulations across the state.

The directive, issued under the leadership of Commissioner of Police CP Ojo Adekimi, psc, mnips, comes in line with instructions from the Inspector-General of Police.

It follows growing concerns over the rising disregard for traffic rules by some motorists and road users — a trend police say has contributed to avoidable crashes, traffic congestion, obstruction of free movement, and unnecessary endangerment of lives and property.

According to a press release signed by the Command’s Police Public Relations Officer, SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, the enforcement exercise is designed to restore sanity on the roads, ensure compliance with regulations, safeguard lives, and promote an orderly road transport system throughout Kwara State.

The Command stressed that the initiative is not meant to inconvenience law-abiding citizens but to foster a culture of responsibility and respect for the rule of law.

All officers deployed for the operation have been ordered to carry out their duties professionally, firmly, and with full respect for the rights and dignity of members of the public.

CP Adekimi further warned that any police officer found violating traffic regulations or engaging in misconduct during the exercise would face appropriate disciplinary action in accordance with Nigeria Police Force rules.

Motorists, commercial drivers, tricycle (Keke) and motorcycle (Okada) operators, as well as all other road users, have been urged to obey road signs, observe speed limits, avoid dangerous driving, ensure their vehicle documents are valid, and refrain from any behaviour that endangers other road users.

The Command is soliciting the understanding, cooperation and support of residents as the statewide exercise begins.

This latest directive builds on earlier enforcement efforts by the Kwara Police Command under CP Adekimi, including previous crackdowns on vehicles with covered, obscured, defaced or unauthorised number plates aimed at denying criminals the opportunity to conceal their identities.

The Command reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring safer roads, protecting lives and property, and promoting a secure environment in which lawful road use becomes the collective responsibility of every citizen.

Residents are advised to comply fully with traffic regulations to avoid sanctions and contribute to safer roads for all.
