Bala Mohammed Hails Tinubu Reforms as States Receive More Funds Amid Federal Partnership
Bauchi, NigeriaβOctober 5, 2026βIn a notable cross-party endorsement, Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed on Monday praised President Bola Tinubuβs economic reforms, saying they have significantly boosted resources available to state governments and improved prospects for grassroots development.
Mohammed made the remarks while receiving the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Taiwo Oyedele, and the Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Professor Ali Pate, who visited Bauchi on a courtesy call linked to the commissioning of new federal health infrastructure.
States Are Getting Moreβ
Addressing the ministers, the governor said subnational governments are βproudβ of the partnership with the Federal Government.
βWe donβt always oppose and criticise for the sake of criticising. When we see good things, we say it. The President has done so well in so many aspects, especially in the area of finance, because the states are getting more,β Mohammed stated.
He expressed gratitude for federal interventions that he said would expand access to improved healthcare and raise living standards for more Nigerians.
The governor also highlighted Tinubuβs security support, noting the recent establishment of military battalions in Alkaleri and Tafawa Balewa after Bauchi faced serious bandit threats. βThe people of Bauchi are very proud of him,β he added.
Health Infrastructure and Broader Collaboration
Pate explained that the visit focused on newly completed facilities under the Federal Governmentβs health-sector expansion programme, including a world-class radiodiagnostic centre at Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital and similar centres elsewhere in the country.
Ten such facilities have been established nationwide to improve diagnostic services.
Oyedele described the projects as dividends of the administrationβs macroeconomic reforms aimed at stabilizing the economy, restoring investor confidence, and strengthening institutions.
He stressed the importance of willing state partners for successful federal-state alignment on security, human capital, and development.
Mohammed assured the ministers of Bauchiβs readiness to deepen collaboration, insisting that health and education should not be politicized.
βWe cannot play politics with health and education,β he said, adding that political differences must not hinder initiatives that directly benefit citizens.
Context of Rising State Allocations
The governorβs comments come against the backdrop of substantially higher Federation Account Allocation Committee (FAAC) disbursements to states in recent years, driven by revenue reforms following the removal of fuel subsidy and other fiscal measures.
Many governors have reported improved capacity to fund infrastructure, salaries and social services, though public debate continues over the translation of these funds into tangible relief for ordinary Nigerians facing high living costs.
Mohammedβs public acknowledgment stands out given his position as an opposition figure. He framed the praise as recognition of results rather than partisan endorsement, underscoring a pragmatic approach to federal-state relations.
As the ministersβ visit concludes, attention turns to how increased resources and new health facilities will translate into measurable improvements in service delivery and security for the people of Bauchi and other states.
